Osinbanjo Pleads with Global community to assist Nigeria

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, while
attending a plenary session of the 3rd
United Nations Conference on Financing
for Development in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia, on Tuesday, July 14, begged the

international community to set up a
global body which will tackle financial
corruption in Africa.
Prof. Yemi Osinbajo
This was made known in a release issued in Abuja by Laolu Akande, his senior special assistant on media and publicity.
Osinbajo said it was important for the
international community to help Africa stop and track illicit financial flows.
He said: “This conference must come up with a mechanism for dismantling safe havens and the return of stolen funds and assets to the countries of origin as mandated in the UN Conventions Against Corruption and Transnational Organised Crime.”
Osinbajo praised the report of the African Union High-level panel on illicit financial flow from Africa, just as he called on the UN to help Africa “stop, track and repatriate
illicit funds.”
The VP also begged for the creation of
a Global Fund for Educational Development (GFED), which is equivalent to the UN Global
Fund to Fight AIDS and other major diseases.
He claims such funds for free universal
education will “make a difference in our
world in the next 15 years.
“It should replicate the successes registered by the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.”
