Please Sir, can we meet you?

I am Albert Osakwe the director academic planning.

Sir, we would like to know what academic planning is all about
academy planning is about planning all your degree programs, to be structured in a way that NUC will accredit them for award of degree.


Sir, how did you become the director of academics?
By appointment I use to be the HOD of chemical science and so they found if necessary that somebody should man this office. Since February, 2012.

Classifying Novena University as one of the effective Universities in Nigeria, what impact has it added to its students?
Ooh fantastic it might interest you to know that one of our immediate past graduate who is doing his youth corp in Niger state and has been recommended for a national award. Previously before then we’ve produced graduate who are doing very well in post graduate a well as in employment so we are proud of producing the right graduate but at the same time more needs to be done because we need to raise the standard.

Students pay money for some basic educational facilities and they are not provided, an example is the lack of studio in the mass communication department that we pay extra N30, 000 for. Why is it so?
yes there was a plan for a broadcasting studio, to station as far back as 2009 so am surprise to hear that program is died down with the former HOD we’ll talk with your HOD.


Comparing Novena University with other Universities like Lead City and Covenant University among other we are really lagging behind when it comes to resumption and closure of school why is it so Sir?
this is a private University and you must get funds to run it therefore you must admit enough students and in doing that you have to delay your admission a little bit to make sure that you can get enough.

Is it that the board in charge of it does not troubleshoot just in case?

I am in charge of preparing the calendar and I can tell you first hand that the problems we are having are late admission and political incidences like the past election. so we are working to make sure we close those gaps.

Sir why is the examination time table not always stable?.

Like all human systems there might be errors, error from those who are preparing, error from the students who fill to read notice boards to make sure that if there is any clash they can report because each time table normally say please students check if there is any clash report to you various HODs or to your course adviser but students don’t do that until the last minute. So the changes are to accommodate you students who have carry overs and who perhaps you are taught late.

Sir if you could change three things about this school what would they be?.

I will start from the lecturers to try and get more lecturers, our university students also we need to screen them because we tend to carry a lot of people who are not suppose to be in Universities, make a recreational center so people can have fun aside work work.what about the security aspect like, there are sometimes Amai individuals jump through the fence to our hostels and end up stealing from us and each time we report nothing is done about it.?
We are looking into that we are going through all the security aspect then preliminary reports on how that we need to improve on that especially the girl hostel behind and I think if you’ve noticed there has been some improvement on security patrol.


Sir where do you see Novena University in the next five years.

Ones we move to our permanent site and we are introducing new programs and our post graduate program.


Sir when I passed the permanent site what I saw were uncompleted buildings covered in grasses.
we have six halls that can take 5,000 student each they’ve not been roofed, we have a convocation center there up to the roofing level, sincerely we are talking to the proprietor is talking to establishment banks and trustees to have enough money to start the permanent site.


Sir are you saying we don’t generate enough money?
No, we don’t for now.


Sir why do we have only one bank in this school is it that we cannot have another one?
We have a memorandum of understanding with Skye bank because initially they gave us the seed money to start. We said ok you’ll build your branch within our premise but this is not our permanent premises so they can’t go and build in the permanent site because it’s not developed so they have  to stay here, we said ok since we can’t move to your permanent site other banks come and establish and they look at Amai and say no there is no security we can’t we are going to pay more, so that is why we are stuck. As soon as we move to our permanent site Skye bank will be free to build and other banks can now come in, that’s where we are.
