MANDELA DAY

Nelson-mandela-ii

The United Nations General Assembly declared July 18 to be Nelson Mandela International Day in 2009. The late president of South Africa and anti-Apartheid activist, who died in 2013,

was born on that day.
"Mandela Day" is described as "more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better."
The day also aims to promote acts of kindness that invoke Mandela's spirit. Social media users are encouraged to use the hashtags #MandelaDay and #Time2Serve to pay tribute to the leader, and to share stories of others who are making a positive change in their community, respectively.
Here's what the Twitterverse had to say about #MandelaDay, which trended Saturday on the social network.
