Petroleum Tanker Drivers Peg speed limit at 60km/hr

Petroleum tanker drivers under the
umbrella of the Nigerian Union of
Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG)
have pegged the maximum speed limit for their trucks at 60km/hr.
The Petroleum tanker drivers’ decision
was announced by the Federal Road
Safety Corps (FRSC) at a meeting with
stakeholders in the downstream sector
on Wednesday.
Although, the FRSC had earlier
announced an official speed limit for
truck drivers at 75km/hr.
They noted that the development was as
a result of the death of at least 10
students of the Olabisi Onabanjo
University and other recent crashes
involving petroleum tankers and
trailers.
The FRSC and NUPENG also threatened
to restrain movement of the tanker
drivers without the speed limiters or
reflective tapes from September 1,
2015.
The Agency also collaborated with the
Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) to
ensure adequate capacity development
training among officers.
However, the FRSC Corp Marshall, Mr
Boboye Oyeyemi, equally warned haulage
operators that no unstrapped container
would be allowed to leave the ports
henceforth.
