Timipre Sylva wins Bayelsa state APC primaries


Former governor of Bayelsa state, Timipre Sylva on Tuesday emerged winner of the All ProgressivesCongress (APC) governorship primary election in the state, marred by violence, gunshots and withdrawals.

Timipre Sylva emerged Governorship flag bearer of the party after winning 726 votes.
Mr Sylva and former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Timi Alaibe contested for the ticket in Yenagoa, Bayelsa capital.
Other contestants were a former House of 
Representativesmember, Warman Ogoriba; a former Federal Government Permanent Secretary, Imoro Okubo; Senator Clever Ikisikpo; and Charity Vedelago, Chief Diekivie Ikiogha, a retired director and one-time adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan when he (Jonathan) was governor of Bayelsa as well as Ambassador Emmanuel Otiotio.
In preparation for the primary, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State led a seven-man Electoral Committee to meet with the 19 governorship aspirants of the APC in Bayelsa on Monday.
Mr. Oshiomhole left before election began on Tuesday.
The governorship election is slated for December 5.
